The North Houston Development Corporation officially opened the Rockstar Energy Bike Park on August 16, 2019. The BMX facility is one of the largest in the United States and boasts more than 20-acres of bike attractions for all skill levels.

Jones|Carter provided program and construction management services for the project since it broke ground in 2016. Martin Murdock, Vice President of Municipal and District Operations says he’s proud to have worked on a project that brings so much to the community.

“We don’t do too many projects where once you are finished, you can see people enjoy the fruits of your labor,” said Murdock. “It’s really satisfying being able to bring new parks to North Houston and give kids this opportunity.”

The park is uniquely designed, according to Murdock.  Jones|Carter was able to utilize the space under the starting ramps, something that has never been done before. Rather than leaving the space hollow, the area is being used as a concession stand, office and storage space.

Whether you are a beginner or expert, the park offers something for everyone. Those wishing to improve their BMX skills can utilize the street course, concrete bowls, asphalt pump tracks and various ramps. The park also boasts wooded mountain bike and walking trails, green space, bleacher seating, education areas and pavilion space for events.

The park encourages community involvement through educational initiatives. Kids between kindergarten and third grade can participate in BMX 101 where they will be taught how to ride a bike and learn about the sport through engaging lesson plans. Older school-aged children can also learn about track modeling and bike building.

The Rockstar Energy Bike Park will have a big inaugural year, hosting the USA BMX Lone Star Nationals in October, the BMX Nationals and World Championship Qualifier in March 2020 and the UCI BMX World Championships in May 2020. The park is also expected to draw competitors from around the globe for its certified professional status.

Jones|Carter has been working with the North Houston Development Corporation for more than 15 years. Our team has also worked alongside the TRIZ on projects such as the North Houston Skate Park and Dylan’s Park.
