PROJECT OVERVIEW

The intersection of New Territory Boulevard and Chatham Avenue in Sugar Land’s Telfair community regularly experienced street ponding during major rain events, which created unsafe driving conditions for residents. The area was also not meeting the criteria in the city’s master drainage plan.

SERVICE DETAILS

To help reduce street ponding, our team used Infoworks ICM to select proposed storm sewer modifications. The team designed a storm sewer system that runs parallel and interconnects with an existing storm sewer along Chatham Avenue. The new system will consist of 575-linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe and 1,750-linear feet of reinforced concrete box, as well as upsized inlets.

The outfall and proposed storm sewer are located near an elementary school. Our team coordinated with the school and hosted public engagement meetings to ensure the proposed traffic control plan would not impact school traffic and children would not be near the construction site. Construction in that area is scheduled to occur during the school district’s winter holiday.
