PROJECT OVERVIEW

The City of Anna, a rapidly growing community north of Dallas, requires expanded water supply infrastructure to support continued development. As part of these efforts, improvements to the existing Collin Pump Station are planned to help meet increasing demand in this area of the city.

Originally constructed 15 years ago, the pump station requires significant upgrades to integrate new facilities with the existing infrastructure. The project includes the construction of a 4 MG precast, prestressed concrete ground storage tank; installation of a 3,450-gallon-per-minute (GPM) vertical turbine booster pump; a new electrical building; and a 1.5 MW diesel generator. Additional components include electrical systems and controls, SCADA integration, security features, plant piping, valves, fittings, and site improvements, delivering a fully functional pump station facility.

Upon completion, the facility will have a design capacity of 8 MGD, with the ability to expand to an ultimate capacity of 13 MGD.

SERVICE DETAILS

At the outset of the project, the City had not determined whether a steel welded tank or a prestressed concrete tank would be used. Our team conducted a comprehensive alternatives analysis comparing both options, including capital costs, operations and maintenance requirements, and 50-year life cycle costs. This evaluation provided the City with the information needed to make an informed decision and ultimately led to the selection of a prestressed concrete ground storage tank.

Quiddity provided electrical engineering design for the facility, including backup generation sized to support the pump station’s ultimate capacity of 13 MGD. Our team also developed a Maintenance of Plant Operations (MOPO) plan in coordination with City operations staff to maintain uninterrupted service during construction.

The project required significant site and utility coordination. Our team worked with the tank vendor to establish appropriate spacing for current and future tanks while addressing an existing Oncor easement and a newly established telecommunications easement for a wireless tower. Additional coordination was required when the City added new wells at the site, requiring adjustments to facility spacing and pipeline alignments to accommodate the ultimate system buildout.
