PROJECT OVERVIEW
The North Harris County Regional Water Authority operates as a regional wholesale surface water provider in the northern Houston metropolitan area, catering to 124 local entities across more than 335 square miles and serving approximately 710,000 residents. The Authority’s primary mission is to distribute surface water, procured from the City of Houston, to its constituents, aligning with the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District’s objective of achieving a 60% shift from groundwater usage by 2025. This sourced water is produced at the City of Houston’s Northeast Water Purification Plant, situated on the southwestern banks of Lake Houston, and is conveyed through a network of large-diameter transmission lines maintained by both the City of Houston and the Authority along Beltway 8 on Houston’s northern periphery. Project 28G represents an expansion of these water transmission lines, entailing the installation of an 84-inch water line extension commencing at the Al Rendl Regional Pump Station along Gessner Road and concluding at the 60-inch water lines located at Greens Bayou, constituting the second loop of the Authority’s system. This strategic project, in tandem with the second loop system, enables the transfer of water between the older, eastern 2010 section of the system and the newer, western 2025 mandated areas.
SERVICE DETAILS
Our team collaborated as a design partner with Arcadis, and together, we played a vital role in establishing the alignment and placement of around 3,800 linear feet of 84-inch water line, connecting the Al Rendl Regional Pump Station to the proposed 60-inch Water Line at Greens Bayou. Additionally, we identified that situating the water line beneath the northbound lanes of N. Gessner Road, a crucial City of Houston thoroughfare, would expedite the easement acquisition process. As a result, our team engaged in extensive coordination with the City of Houston throughout the design preparation phase. We were responsible for producing the construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents, encompassing the 84-inch water line design, which included designs for two tunnel crossings, as well as plans for the removal and replacement of major thoroughfare roadway pavement and street lighting.
