PROJECT OVERVIEW
The State Highway 249 extension is a 24-mile tolled and non-tolled roadway in northern Harris County that passes through Montgomery County and portions of Grimes County, ending just south of Navasota. The volume of commuters in Montgomery County is expected to rise over the next decade and extending SH 249 helps alleviate traffic, prepare the county for future growth and provides a direct route to College Station.
SERVICE DETAILS
Our team designed 3.2-miles of the extension in southwest Montgomery County for the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority. To accommodate future growth, the toll road’s main lanes were designed to include two 12-foot lanes with 4-foot inside shoulders and 10-foot outside shoulders. An open grassy 30-foot median between the north and southbound lanes was incorporated to help preserve the natural aesthetic of the area.
