PROJECT OVERVIEW

Because of corrosion and the effects of regular use, the Trinity River Authority selected Quiddity to provide professional engineering services for the design and construction of three 5 MG welded steel ground storage tank rehabilitations, to be completed in two separate bid packages. The design work for bid package 1 commenced in late February 2020 and concluded in mid-June 2020. The design phase for bid package 2 began in September 2020 and was successfully finished in June 2023.

SERVICE DETAILS

Quiddity’s responsibilities encompassed conducting a condition assessment, managing the design phase, overseeing the construction phase, and providing on-site project representation. The design package included repairs to the floor plate, the removal and replacement of all roof rafters and corroded portions of the support structure, repairing ponded areas of the roof, and re-coating of all interior and exterior surfaces. Design modifications also included the removal, replacement, and integration of all level monitoring and control instruments with the existing SCADA system; the installation of intrusion alarms on all access hatches; the removal and replacement of all interior and exterior access ladders, hatches, and roof vents; and the abandonment and removal of the existing impressed current cathodic protection systems. Furthermore, the design for bid package 2 included full replacement of the two existing 5 MG welded steel roof structures with a rafter-less design option to minimize the effects of corrosion for future maintenance.
