Conventional survey methods were used to perform ground-truthing by obtaining elevations along cross-sections at a particular interval. This data was then compared to the LiDAR data that was collected, and if the two were not within a pre-determined acceptable range, we would gather additional data in that area to ensure accuracy. When the LiDAR data was collected, some areas were obscured, so we used conventional methods to obtain elevations and topographic features. That data was then joined with the LiDAR data with a significant amount of overlap to ensure the quality of the combination.
GIS was also used as a right of entry in this project. There were many different parcels that we had to obtain the right of entry from each landowner, and GIS was used as a tracking method to ensure that we had sent, they had received, and they had approved the right of entry.
