What Went Into Restoring Buffalo Bayou Park?

04.30.2021

DURATION 2 minute read

In 2021 Gao Lee, PE, CFM, and David Cornyn, PE, CFM presented at the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) Annual Meeting on their work on the Buffalo Bayou Park Hurricane Harvey relief project.

The Buffalo Bayou recovery project consisted of 16 repair sites along two miles of the Buffalo Bayou with seven sites having major erosion issues. The park could not be closed during construction, so the team had to carefully plan how to successfully repair the bayou while accounting for stakeholder requests and park events – requiring no construction during park events or the use of heavy equipment to prevent damage.

See their presentation below to discover how the team navigated these constraints and others while preserving the bayou’s natural environment and delivering an expertly engineered and designed product to the Harris County Flood Control District and Houston community!

TFMA members will be able to access a video version of the presentation here.
