PROJECT OVERVIEW
Nile Valley Road is a roughly 3-mile roadway in Bay City, Texas that runs from Texas 35 to Texas 60. The road creates a major corridor for the southwest side of the city but it was closed for more than a decade due to unsafe driving conditions. City officials wanted to reconstruct Nile Valley Road so it could provide an alternate route for emergency vehicles and help promote economic development and growth in the community.
SERVICE DETAILS
Our team designed a complete reconstruction of Nile Valley Road. Reconstructing the bridge over the railroad was not a part of the design package, but the bridge approaches at the structure were failing. We designed new bridge approach slabs and retrofitted armor joints that tied into the bridge to prevent the pavement from cracking in the event of temperature fluctuations. We also prevented the need for excess fill material by lowering the speed limit to 45 MPH.
