PROJECT OVERVIEW
Houston Avenue and White Oak Drive intersect north of the I-45 and I-10 interchange near the White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail. The intersection experiences heavy volumes of driver and pedestrian traffic due to its proximity to the greenway and two major interstates. The intersection was a confusing sea of concrete and posed safety issues for drivers and pedestrians.
SERVICE DETAILS
Our team led the extensive schematic planning and design for the complex intersection. Based on existing and future traffic projection models, a layout was chosen that improved levels of service and enhanced traffic flow to better serve motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. Our team also launched significant public outreach efforts to inform the community and help garner public support.
The project helps alleviate driver confusion, improve crossing conditions and connect residents and visitors to the White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail. The team designed improved pedestrian facilities, dedicated turn lanes, new park space, dedicated on-street bicycle facilities, shorter crossing distances for pedestrians, and concrete at bus stop facilities where grass once existed.
