The La Grange River Bridge Project

02.06.2018

DURATION 3 minute read

This project took the Jones|Carter survey team to a 1,400 linear footbridge stretching across the Colorado River in La Grange. Conventional surveying methods were used to obtain the top-of-bank and channel measurements of the river on both sides, as well as the embankments and the exact bride location. The team used a TX – 8 to scan the sides and under the bridge to start a point cloud, then mobile LiDAR was used as they drove across the bridge to capture the driving deck and the other sides of the truss to create a full map of the bridge.

The team was able to capture a huge amount of data in a very short period of time. This was a very old bridge with narrow lanes, but safety was a primary concern. Thanks to this unique combination of surveying techniques, the work was completed during normal business hours without interference or endangerment to the public or any of our crews.
